Eating Disorders
If you have opened this page you or someone you love may be suffering from an eating disorder, either Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating or Compulsive Over-eating.
Eating Disorders are not just experienced by teenage girls, anyone can suffer from an eating disorder at any time in their life and this is an extremely serious disease which can not be dealt with alone.
Eating disorders are very secretive in their nature and cause the individual to create a complex strategy for misleading those around them who would seek to have them eat more, lose weight or just to be sociable around food. What seems perfectly normal to those who don’t suffer from an eating disorder is completely abnormal to those who do. The more you try and highlight the problem, the more it will go underground.
The whole point of eating disorders is that they aren’t about what you eat, but why you are eating/not eating/binging or purging. It’s the feelings, NOT the food.
People who tell you to get over it are not helping, you need to be able to talk openly about your feelings, stop focussing on the food and challenge this problem.
You may be concerned about a loved one, partner, co-worker or friend who you believe suffers from eating disorders, you may feel you need to help them or to gain more knowledge.
