Depression
If you have opened this page you or someone you love may be suffering from Depression, which can feel completely overwhelming.
The first step is to see your GP to let him/her know how you are feeling. The next step is to talk to someone about how you feel.
Depression can be long term or ‘reactive’ – that is to say its onset is as a result of a specific event or situation – some brief examples are:
- The loss of a loved one
- A major change in your lifestyle
- The end of a relationship
- The onset of illness or disability
- Changes in circumstance ie retirement or children moving on
Long-term depression is possible to live with but you cannot do this alone, you need to share your feelings and to look after yourself properly.
It is not easy living with someone who suffers from a depressive illness; you can feel angry, frustrated, isolated, helpless or just sad and you need to ensure that their depression does not become your depression.
